Jayne Johnson

Jayne Gibson Johnson, 82, of Hot Springs Village, AR. died on February 14, 2010 at a local hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on August 8, 1927, to John Clyde and Jane Rachel Cathey Brown. She grew up in Enterprise, Alabama, living with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Calvin Yarbrough. She graduated from Coffee County High School in 1945 and attended Judson College and the University of Alabama. When World War II ended, she married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Gibson. Following her husband's graduation from medical school, internship, and residency, the couple moved back to Enterprise to raise their family. Known for her keen wit and indomitable style, Jayne played a mean hand of bridge, fished with gusto, laughed every day, and lived every minute. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Dr. Herbert Daniel Gibson; one daughter, Elizabeth Jayne Gibson; two brothers, Homer Cathey Brown and John Clyde Brown, Jr.; and two sisters, Harriet Lenore Brown Goff and Eloise Brown Miller. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her second husband of 9 years, Thomas Gaffney Johnson; two daughters, Jeanette Ann (Warren) Rollins and Lee Yarbrough (Danny) Bradley; four grandchildren: Danny O'Neal (Shannon) Bradley,Jr., Elizabeth Lee Rollins (Tee) McClimans, Herbert Daniel Bradley, and Rebecca Jayne Rollins (Alan) McDonald; eight great grandchildren: Catie, Nanne, and Sarah Gibs McClimans; Jake, Libby, and Lucy Rollins McDonald; Connor Bradley and Gibson Bradley; five sisters: Emmy Carter Brown, Cleo Brown Bishop, Frances Linda Brown Mock, Gladys Louise Brown Oyler and Fran Brown Warren; and two brothers, Asa Richard Brown and George Vaughn Brown. A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be held in the sanctuary of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Enterprise, AL. at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 20th with Dr. Neil Epler officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church or the church's building fund.
