Ollia Dodd

OLLIA FAYE (OLLIE) JENNINGS DODD of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away Sunday, 5-10-09. She was born January 4, 1936 and was raised in the Cravens Community near Wilburton and Red Oak, OK. She attended Cravens Elementary School and Panola High School. She met John Dodd at Panola High School during their freshman year. They began dating during their junior year. They graduated as co-valedictorians of their senior class in 1953. They were married August 6, 1954 at Wilburton, Ok. and have enjoyed 54 years of marriage. She attended Oscar Rose Junior College and Oklahoma City Community College. She received her Associate in Business with Information Processing Options. She was employed by Oklahoma City Community College in the Finance Department in 1972. She retired from Oklahoma City College January 1991. At the time of retirement, she served as Assistant Student Store Manager/College Bursar. Ollie and John were introduced to Hot Springs Village in 1980. They took "the tour," and liked what they saw. They purchased a lot and started making plans to retire here. Those dreams came true In October 1991. Her first major project, after moving to the Village, was helping compile and sell the Village cookbook, "How Hot Springs Village Cooks." She became active in several organizations. Christian Women's Club was a favorite. John and Ollie vacationed twice a year in the Village before retiring. She planned their vacation around the third Wednesday so she could attend Christian Women's Club. She served on the Planning Team for seven years and was a faithful attendee and worker. She was a member of Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, Hot Springs Village, AR. She baked 10 dozen cookies for fellowship time the third Sunday of each month for the first ten years. She continued to bake cookies on the Sunday assigned to her care Group. She is predeceased by her parents Harold "Hal" and Hazel Jennings, brother Harold Jennings, sister Marilyn Willis, nephew James Gary Willis, great niece Kelly Briley, great nephews Clayton and Joseph Ardese, She is survived by her husband John, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Great nieces Melissa and Melanie Willis were like her grandchilren. They spent spring break with Ollie and John from the time they were three years old to teenagers. Ollie always enjoyed reminding them of all the cute things they did as children after they were young adults. They would say "Ollie you never forget a thing!" They did not look forward to that, but respected her age. Ollie and John were privileged to be a part of many holidays and special occasions for Melissa and Melanie, including Melissa's wedding, which was on their 51st wedding anniversary. She was looking forward to Melanie's graduation from college. Memorial services will be Wednesday May 13 at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Morey officiating. Oklahoma Services will be conducted by Reverend Junior Miller and Don Russell at Sulphur Springs Church 2:0 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will be in Baldwin Cemetery in the Cravens Community near Red Oak/Wilburton, OK.
