Rev. Harmon

Rev. Wilson Harmon. 90. of Malvern, Arkansas passed away Friday, August 14, 2009 at Hot Spring County Medical Center. He was born January 9. 1919 in Monette, Arkansas to Sherman Edward Harmon and Mattie Lee Bryant Harmon. He was a minister of the gospel and a member of the Rockport Missionary Baptist Church. He was retired and a former employee of Magnet Cove Barium Corp where he worked as a millwright. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country in World War II. He enjoyed life, spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He was better known by his grandchildren as "Poppy" and was known at times to teach them to do some mischievous things, such as catching snakes. He is survived by: 3 Sons: Maurice "Rod" Harmon and his wife Ann of Malvern, Arkansas Sherman "Johnny" Harmon and his wife Linda of Malvern, Arkansas Rev. Marion Harmon and his wife Barbara of Malvern, Arkansas 3 Daughters: Janey Raines and her husband Charles of Malvern, Arkansas Marlene Gibson and her husband Pat of Malvern, Arkansas Nancy Cope and her husband Clarence of Mineola, Texas 13 Grandchildren: Vanessa Glaze, Leah Costello and her husband Ed, Dara Corrales and her husband Lidio, John Clay Harmon and his wife Karen, Tina Marie Fowler, Jerry Harmon and his wife Cynthia, Tony Ray Harmon and his wife Becki, Troy Harmon and his wife Pat, Gail Vaughan and her husband John, Todd Harmon, Jennifer McClard and her husband Mark, Shena Rae Lisenbey and her husband Gary and Emily Gibson. 23 Great-grandchildren; 9 Great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Harmon, his parents, a son Jerry Harmon, 4 brothers-Leo, Ed, Junior and Otis Harmon and a sister Helen. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009 in Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brad Warren officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will be in New Hope # 1 Cemetery near Rolla. Pallbearers will be his grandsons-Andrew Lisenbey, Steven Lisenbey, Jerry Harmon, William Bean, Marshall Bean, Troy Harmon, Todd Harmon and Brian Costello. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Malvern Nursing Home Staff, Hot Spring County Medical Center ICU Staff, Ed Costello P.A., Dr. Ab Tilley and Dr. Shane Higginbotham for their compassionate care and for making his final days on his journey here a pleasant one. Arrangements are under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Malvern, Arkansas.
