Sara Cannon Martin

Sara Elizabeth Cannon Martin Sara was born October 24, 1926 to Lydia Eileen Pilgreen Campbell and George Washington Campbell in Calera, Alabama. She went to meet the Lord on April 26, 2009. She is preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Melvin Cannon her second husband Henry Davis Martin and her sister Georgia Francis Webb. Sara was quite a talented and incredibly intelligent person even without the background of a formal education. There was little that she touched that she didn't master. She worked as an executive secretary in her career life, supporting her three children after the sudden loss of their father at an early age of 38. She took up golf in her 40's and became extremely good at it, winning numerous tournaments and awards, also serving as president on numerous boards of the Lady's Golf Association in Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. An extremely creative person, she created pastels, oil paintings, was self-taught and a natural talent. She was a voracious reader and in her late 70's finished and published a novel she had begun to write in the 1950's entitled Pinnacle, which included her own original poetry. She had an innate curiosity. Her love of learning lead her to study piano, computers and Spanish among other things. Sara loved cooking, gardening, photography, ceramics, sewing, bingo, her children and laughter. Her sense of humor was infectious and all who knew her loved this about her. Her heart was big enough for the world to reside in. She loved deeply and unconditionally, lived through laughter. She will be deeply missed by her family. She leaves behind her sister Susan Campbell Hilburn and husband Rick Hilburn, her daughters Leesa Cannon Hoffman and husband Dr. Steven A. Hoffman, Linda Cannon Clifford and husband Jon Clifford, a son Thomas Melvin Cannon Jr., step-daughters Cherie Martin LaBarbera and husband Craig LaBarbera, Joy Martin Evans and husband Ed Evans, a step-son Harry Martin, her truly devoted friend and companion Tom Wheeler, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, Doyle and Georgia Bramhall, 8 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, and 2 step great, great grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation of the care that Sara received through Signature Pointe on the Lake in her final weeks. Their incredible tender, loving care and devotion to her and support to her family will forever be remembered. A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 3rd, 2009 at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home on Northwest Highway in Dallas, Texas.
